Paul Nash, Sunflower Rises Exhibition at the Fondation Vincent van Gogh Arles in 2018 from April, 21st to October, 28th.
The exhibition Paul Nash. Sunflower Rises presents some thirty works by the artist considered to be one of Britain’s greatest Modernists, who nevertheless remains little known in France.
Nash’s highly original art marries his fascination for landscape with his personal vision of real and imaginary worlds. His way of seeing was inspired by nature, transformed by two world wars and influenced by a growing awareness of his own mortality. His numerous visits to France and the work of French artists also had a major impact – something that is explored here for the first time.
This catalogue takes us to the heart of Paul Nash’s life and work – through his paintings and photographs, and equally through new texts by exhibition curator Simon Grant and writer, novelist and cultural commentator Michael Bracewell.
